Tyre Treads and its importance:-
Treads are made on the outer face of the tyres on its circumference which practically makes contact with the ground or road surface.The main reason of having treads on the tyre is to provide traction to the wheels but after repeated use treads become worn out resulting in poor traction.And the good thing is worn tyres can be retreated and reused.Different types of treads |
But the question arises why do tyres have tread on them and why our normal tyres are not like the race car tyres having no treads?
The reason why race tyres look different from others because they are made for different purposes.Race tyres need very smooth treads which provide grip during dry condition.
On the other hand, since we don't use our vehicles for race purpose and we frequently run our vehicles any conditions like hot, cold, rainy, snow, mud etc.. we need more treads in our tires.Especially during rainy days when water flows always on road making a slippery surface, we need bigger and better treads to get better traction and to avoid any kind of accidents.
When a vehicle is traveling at higher speed or the treads are not able to move enough water under the tyre it results in hydroplaning.That losses control of the vehicle due to less contact with the road.
We can see some groves in a tire which helps in removing water away during rainy days from wet roads which further helps the rider / driver reducing the risk of an accident caused by Hydroplaning. That's why it becomes very necessary to properly inspect tyres regularly.

It is very imoortant to check Tread Wear indicators as mentioned in the above pictures.Tread-wear indicators (TWI) means the projections within the tread grooves designed to give a visual indication of the degree of wear of the tread.Tyres worn beyond these limits are not fit for use and need to be replaced soon.

So this is why monitoring tread of the tyre is very very important for vehicle's safety and performance.
